I recently went through a tough and sad divorce, and I got left paying for everything because my ex was unable to participate financially or mentally. It has brought my credit down, I am wondering if that will have a negative impact on my ability to be hired, any thoughts? I am now a single mom taking care of my girls on my own, and DODEA has always been a dream, and now it also seems to be a good way for me to get back on my feet while doing a job that I love. Just curious. Sadly, I have even thought of bankruptcy but I don't want to ruin my chances even more. Trying to make the best out of sad situation. Fresh start!

haha Yes, credit cards come in very handy during the process of waiting for reimbursement. :D

LolaTeach I had to spend my own money to pay for the credit card bills that had accumulated from being in billeting, meals, and my car. It took about six weeks for me to finally get my advance pay and TQSA reimbursements.

LolaTeach Also, when I filed my travel voucher, my paycheck was deducted $600 for taxes. This does not include the cost of moving, which I am still bracing myself for.... Things have changed this past year, so previous experiences may not apply. Once again, I am hoping Congress resolves this issue soon.

LolaTeach ..and just for the record, my travel voucher only included my flight to Asia and meals for that day.

haha Yes, you have always had to pay your own credit card bills until the advance/reimbursement kicks in. 6 weeks is on the longer end of the spectrum. Our new hires this year ranged from two to 3 weeks. Sorry your experience was worse.

Taxes on benefits are a new pain to deal with. Hopefully Congress will get it fixed for new hires and people ...See More
