I have so many questions about what will come next. My head is spinning. Like can I use my cell phone carrier over there and put international calling on the plan or should I get a plan in Japan? How often do we get paid? I know about car. Do I schedule my own plane trip? Etc.

It can be over-whelming. Just take it one step at a time. Phone service will vary by carrier. In the short term your carrier may be OK in Japan but check with them about the service, costs, etc. For the long term you will likely want a Japanese number, We have SoftBank and got new phones with them. It seems on the expensive side but works for us.
