Hello everyone!

I submitted my application a few days ago, so new to the whole process. I'm currently in NC interested in moving to Japan. I went to Japan over Thanksgiving break and did a few interviews at some international schools, but they were not a good fit for me and the pay was very low. So here I am! I know I have to be open about where I could be placed, but anyone have any insight on how desirable Japan is for others? For example, I feel like the majority have interest in Europe and it can be tough getting there, is it the same for Japan? Also, is it appropriate to reach out to principals via email to introduce myself and let them know I am interested? I normally send my resume, cover letter, and online portfolio. Thanks in advance! Also, I'm a 6th year elementary school teacher if that matters.

teachandtravel Thanks for your input! ASIJ and YIS are definitely intimidating for me as a first time time international teacher. I will hold off on emailing because like you said I don't want them to be put off by my attempts.

teachandtravel I am currently on Teach Away and in the process of completing my Search Associates profile, so I can try and get registered for the upcoming job fairs.

HelpOthers Japan is wonderful. I would not send information directly to principals unless you make a referral list. They get too many e-mails that they have to respond to and may be frustrated about receiving yours. Make sure your information in EAS is reflective of all your experiences and use that text box on the experience page to include anything not alre...See More
