Hi, everyone.
So after roughly two months after the initial phone interview (the one I thought I did HORRIBLE), I just got an email with a tentative job offer which surprised me because I let that option go a while ago.
But now I am newly married and have a husband to think about and he said he doesn't want to move away from where we are yet because our parents are getting older, will need help from us, etc. Mind you, I applied for DoDEA school positions before I even got engaged.
But I noticed that they request you to contact all of your past employers to fill out a form and I know for sure I will have a little to no chance to reach my first employer (1-year teaching experience).
So my question are: (1) If we cannot reach one of our past employers, does that mean I will lose a year of teaching experience?; (2) If I sign the contract, will it be for at least two years?; and (3) What do spouses of DoDEA teachers' end up doing while living overseas...See More

This definitely won't be your only chance. You have to do what's right for both of you. If he's resistant, it's an added stress on a new marriage.

Also- your report date would definitely be before October. They goal would be August before school starts.

Your report date might be before October, but there are always exceptions. Pretty much every year starts off with a few classrooms with subs waiting on teachers to arrive from the states.

To follow up on my earlier comment- I speak from experience. I turned down my first offer because the timing wasn't right. I kept my application active, and I am now happily employed with DODEA in a great location at a time that is right for my family. So, truly, this won't be your only shot. :)
