Got a wild one here. I'm thinking if I live near a base in Europe (I'm an American, living in Belgium right now) I could get hired to teach as a sub. If they then wanted to hire me to teach, could they then hire me from the EAS and thus have my stuff shipped from the USA? Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about the feasibility of that turning out well for me? Thanks!
Ida If you are hired locally (as a sub and then a teacher), you do not qualify for LQA rights which includes housing, shipment of HHG, Return travel, etc. There is a slight chance (depending on why you are in Belgium) that if you get hired anywhere in the world while living overseas you might not qualify for those benefits. H I don't have any first hand experience on this, but occasionally I will read about a local hire that the principal liked enough to get them recategorized to get CONUS benefits after two years as a local hire.

Ida As a local hire, who has been told by CHRA that a promotion more than 50 miles away would still not result in picking up rights, this story has to be extremely rare.
