Moving to Japan with my teenaged daughter. Thinking of HHG and what to store in the states and what to take with...I have been planning to take beds, dressers, some storage/tables/secretary/desk, living room furniture (2 chairs and love seat), kitchen items, and school supplies (I'm a science teacher and have many manipulatives/resources). The rest is clothes, linens, incidentals, etc. I plan on storing things that are "attic" type; Christmas, keepsakes for my kids until they are adult and settled (have 2 other kids), 1 large hutch that I got at auction and love, but don't need to take as it is cumbersome, etc. Now wondering if this is the best mindset or if I should travel lighter...do most people take all their belongings or travel light and store everything thinking it is a short term thing? I don't really have a lot of "stuff" as I've moved several times and don't acquire much. haha Most people with DoDEA seem to move all/most of their possessions just like you would if you were moving house in the states (with some whittling down or omissions based on the possibility of space limitations if you have a lot of stuff/very big items).

Icanread I would bring almost everything, especially Christmas decor. There isn't much here in the way of holiday decorations.

HelpOthers I would not store anything. Sell what you don't bring with you. You could be overseas for several years and most people report that their items have ruined over the years. Icanread Depending where you are in Japan, you may have bigger houses. In Okinawa, many houses are Americanized with large kitchens, living rooms, and lots of closet space.
