How do I get an AVID certification? I searched it on Google but it is overwhelming. I was also thinking about an ESL cert because that is just a test, but not sure how useful that is. Maybe I could get a job overseas with that and become a local hire then, if those chances are better?

There are many AVID workshops/classes officered (which you probably discovered). Unfortunately, you might only be able to get an actual certification if your district/school offers AVID. You might try writing someone on the AVID site and asking if any of the open to all educators workshops lead to certification.

Chase the Avid thing. That's ok. But even Avid AND Cheerleading to unlikely to change anything. Because we're ignoring the elephant in the room.
Experience (The total you!).
With or without Avid (and even Cheerleading) you are unlikely to get hired in the next few years. So be careful how you spend the next few years.

I've seen a lot of ESL postings on USA Jobs recently. It seems that not a lot of people have it and it's hard to find people with it and the right other combination of certs. Check to make sure you have all the necessary courses for ESL- it's not just a test in DoDEA.
