Does anyone know if misawa is annual Rat leave or every other year?

scorpion6 Why is Misawa considered a "hardship" location? Or, more generally, what makes a location a "hardship"? From what I can find on the internet, Misawa seems like a nice place to live and teach.

haha Misawa is a mostly nice place to live and teach from what I here. It is relatively isolated away from the main areas of Tokyo/Yokohama and requires an additional flight (and possibly an overnight stay) when you are traveling outside of the country. Also, the winters are cold and very snowy.

scorpion6 Thank you haha for the response. I am from Chicago, so the weather seems typical. The only aspect of Chicago that I don't like is the big city atmosphere. I guess DODEA's definition of hardship location is pretty attractive to me. Thanks again.

haha No problem. Probably not a deal breaker for you, but keep in mind that Misawa does generally get a lot more snow than Chicago (like 4x's the annual average snowfall).
