Good morning! I hope that everyone is staying safe. I am currently with DoDEA in Japan and looking to apply for positions in Europe via USAJobs for hard to fill positions. My spouse is a DoDEA local hire teacher and we have children in high school. If I am selected for a position in another country, can I postpone my family's travel to the end of the school and go ahead of them? I did this when I accepted the job to Japan from the states, but wasn't sure if this was something that we could do here. I understand that we won't receive LQA for both locations if their travel is postponed, which is not a problem, but we are more focused on the postponement of their travel.

TIA for your guidance.
Icanread I would assume the answer is no, as they would lose sofa status and then be in the country illegally, unless your spouse could get sofa status since he is a local hire.

Possibly there is another way...See More

The DoDEA local hire position does not provide SOFA status. They may also lose their access to the military facility even du...See More

Cordelia I'd like to tag on to this question - can you postpone dependent travel if the family is in the US? I also have HS age children and may be in a similar situation. How does this affect your LQA? Thanks!

haha Not an expert and/or have not done this personally. But, in general, yes you should be able to postpone dependent travel up to a certain time limit (vague on exactly what that limit is).

LQA is based on the number of dependents residing at post, so it may have some impact in that you sometimes need to add or take off dependents but it is g...See More
