SandArtCongratulations! I have read that some people here got the firm offer within a couple of weeks, but the time from tentative to firm offer for me was almost 6 weeks.
Nana BMy new principal was adamant that she hear from my current admin. She wouldn't make the tentative offer until she was able to read and email or hear from her.
SandArtVery smart, Bett. I wish I had started before I got the forms. I got the forms exactly 2 weeks ago. I am sending them back tomorrow. However, if I had known some of the stuff sooner, I could have sent them back the same week.
I don't know who is speaking to whom at times and I keep reading conversations that I have already read it does not seem to me that it used to be that confusing a while back.
I just realized our daughter's passport expired in April. Should I take it and rush for a new one or do we have time for regular processing if we tell them we renewed. Can't believe I missed that this Spring.
ScholarEach passport location can give you an estimate. Ours took only 2 weeks although I think they say estimate 6weeks. You will travel on your official passport so the travel one isn't necessary until you take your first vacation.
HelpOthersPersonally, I would go ahead and renew it and expedite it to make sure you get it back in three weeks. However, Scholar is correct. You will use the official passport to travel to your new country.
My husband just received his email with his tentative offer paperwork. We have been applying to Dodea for 4 years and so are a little taken aback that it has finally come.
As a lurker on the board for years, I thought it was time to tap into the resources because we will need help understanding everything. Thanks in advance!
One question we do have that probably is too early to think about, but I am a teacher/counselor too. Will there be work available for me? I am willing to be a para or something for the first year and then hope for a local hire something, but even with all the benefits, only one salary is a little scary. Thoughts?
Having housing and utilities covered definitely helps offset the single salary (as does the post allowance which will be another $500-700 a month tax free). Also remember that the tentative offer may not include your husband's step increases if HR has not received his experience verification forms yet.
You may want to reach out to the principals in your new community area and let them know you will be moving into the area due to your husband's position. You never know where it could lead.
HelpOthersI suggest immediately updating your EAS to the locations within commuting distance of your husband's new position. If you are hired within a certain timeline of him arriving in his new position, you are considered a CONUS hire. If not, you may still get something as a local hire. They have to consider local hires before interviewing others.
How long are background checks taking after the tentative job offer has been made??? What will this entail? And....What exactly is the process from here? Thanks in advance to all who reply.
IdaThank you Snow Lane! I have to apologize because I feel like a chicken with my head cut off. Did you quit your current job before you had received your firm offer?
Snow LaneMy situation is different in that I actually haven't been working since December, so no job to quit, though I would have not renewed my contract for next year if I had been. I figured my background check would come back clean. :)
angelI don't know Daegu but I was watching a video of someone living in South Korea who said they wish they had left their car. Though they still used it, the streets were narrow so it was hard to maneuver the vehicle. Hopefully someone that actually lives there will respond.
HelpOthersAnother friend there needs to sell their car and there are so many limitations about who you can sell the American car to that they are wishing they had not brought it.
