sunnyI saw your post just now. Did you receive info on the clearance process by now? If not I can give some info on how this is done. What about official passport? Have you got the paperwork/instructions ?
Aloha! Does anyone have firsthand teaching experience in Atsugi, Japan to share (e.g., living quarters/on- or off-base, etc.)? It would just be my husband and myself...no children. I am currently researching but would love to hear from others who have experienced Atsugi firsthand. Mahalo nut loa (thank you VERY much!).
curiousI personally like living in Atsugi, Japan. I like the off base living experience, and my LQA covers all the costs. Just keep in mind that if you decide to live off base, there are certain costly fees that you would have to pay upfront, but you would be reimbursed. You'll love the experience.
EuxpatGenerally, they want to hire teachers with as much experience as possible to get the most bang for the buck. They know they will find someone ready to jump ship. We did have 2 new hires at my DDESS school who were right out of college however, so they don't always pick someone with massive experience.
infiniti4Thank you for clearing that up. It just seems strange to me...However, if given the chance I would still as you say "jump ship" even with dropping me down to a step 5. The positives still outweigh that minor detail.
bondoThanks for the update. Just wondering...say that can't find the combination, might they look at someone who has say Counselor and SS and adjust for the missing LA? Does DoDEA allow extended day for teachers? Just in case, I contacted the principals. Again, thanks for the heads up.
It probably gives more of an advantage once you are on the job and can more easily identify with the military culture of most of the parents/students (e.g. transient nature, stress of students moving often, having deployed parents etc).
I recently got married. If I change my name on the application, will I need to have my references resubmit my evaluations with a new name? Or will my previous application in which I marked myself as "single" and used my maiden name, still be visible to HR?
For those that are waiting for background checks or other issues and have waited for quite some time (few months) and once email or call comes for travel orders and due to circumstance beyond your control one decides not to go..... Does anyone know what the consequences would be????
sunny@Insight Thanks for the info. I thought you were still waiting for the clearance. How long it takes to receive the travel orders after the clearance goes through? What did you decide for yourself?
EuxpatYou have to work a minimum of 175 school days to qualify for a full year of employment and get the free RAT ride home. That happened to us transferring from DDESS to DODDS, so we had to wait another year to qualify.
