kgteachThan you all for replying. This is good information. Im worried about having enough time to notify my principal of my resignation. I want to at least give 2 weeks notice before I depart. Are you allowed to pick your start date?
hahaYou can't exactly pick your start date but you request a certain travel date (as I recall) when you apply for your orders. The travel date on your orders is generally considered a travel on or around that date which is within 10 days or so. So there is some wiggle room in most situations.
hahaQuite a few are still open and word has it that some have not been hired for (and some have been hired for but are still waiting for the person to report). Sorry to not have more specifics than that.
You should keep a detailed inventory o...See MoreBut site still broken apparently. Generally yes, although it is up to the individual movers'/moving company's discretion. Technically they are supposed to pack/verify the condition of everything but generally don't seem to care all that much if you prepack (and yes we used plastic bins for many items.
You should keep a detailed inventory of each box as they will only keep a general inventory (e.g. Box 1: Kitchen supplies/dishes, etc). Generally they want to pack/verify all electronics.
I was wondering... can you pack up some things before the movers come? If so, can it be in plastic bins? Should you do an inventory for each container??? TIA
Could this mean that there is an opening and that DoDDS is looking for someone to fill a position in my field that I've applied for? I've not received anything from EASS since they sent the update e-mail request this past January. Just wondering if anyone has ever heard of anything like this happening. Or could it be for a temporary opening (like maternity leave of a teacher) as I indicated that I'd consider a temporary position. Thank for any insights.
uh89Thanks Mary-Lorraine. But I notice that those jobs don't grant SOFA status as at least the ones for the Pacific state that they are for spouses or other family members of others who already have SOFA status and are not open to those of us who do not have it. I appreciate your listing of the link just the same.
HelpOthersThe SOFA status depends on the position. Yes for substitutes, etc., but Nurse, teacher, administrator, etc., mention the relocation benefit, etc.
Most of the interviews I have had with DoDDS were the same 7 questions (e.g. Why DoDDS?, Tell me about a successful lesson you did with planning, differentiation, assessment, Tell me about a time you had a challenging situation and how you dealt with it, Tell me etc).
Even when I flew to DC for the Job Fair type interviews they used to do, it was the same 7 questions. When I interviewed with a principal for my first DoDDS position 3 months later, he asked me the same 7 questions. I often wondered if he had even read my original answers or whether he was checking to see if my answers had changed.
I did have one SPED interview where they asked me about my experiences with an age/disability group specific to their school and how I would deal with certain situations.
We have found a place to rent and with all the fees and deposits we need to pay about $18,000. I understand that we can request a three month advance in salary to pay for this, but are we ultimately reimbursed for these fees or is it all out of pocket for us?
This time around the housing office made sure that we were dealing with landlords that would not expect key money (and our rent is actually less then when we were here 8 years ago, for a bigger, nicer house). So we only had to come up with security, 1st month and realtor fees all of which we got back within 2 weeks or so (except the deposit which you get back when you leave the house).
