"Nine Weeks: a teacher's education in Army Basic Training" is a vindication of all that teachers learn and practice each day.

I enlisted after having taught several years, and have quite a bit to say about the pros and cons of Army training. Soldiers may disagree with me, but teachers understand how important it is to develop instruction based on how people actually learn.

From an Amazon.com review: "As a student who plans to be a teacher this book really spoke to me. He makes it easy to relate so many things that happened during basic training to being in a classroom with a bunch of new students. The drill sergeants weren't the best role models for a beginning teacher, but perhaps I could learn just as Rich Stowell did from observing his NCOs."
