I need help and resources for implementing building blocks into my classroom. I am familiar with the four blocks but not the kindergarten model. I've been home with children for 5 yrs and getting back into teaching.

It contains lots of phonemic awareness activities, lots of reading to, with and by children, writing for, with and by children, print concepts, lots of teacher modeling. It is mainly lots of exposure to print and stories, etc. Good luck and have fun! Dawn/K/WI
My class will be learning all about our beautiful state of Kentucky in a few weeks (September 2-5). I would like to ask all of the Kentucky teachers who visit Teachers.Net to send us an email to [email removed]!
Starting *New* Snail Mail Buddies Looking for 50 Kinderclass buddies across the U.S. to exchange postcards. If interested please email me and I'll send details. Looking forward to hearing from you Rona/K/NY

I have seen some references to Susie Haas and her "Scribbles-n- Dots" site. Wanting to order some things, I tried that site, and was refused "entry". Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, gann/K

Just purchased Dorthy Hall's new book on journal mini lessons for kindergarten. It's a quick read and very appropriate and useful! It cost 17.99...a bit high but I know I'll use it a lot.
Thanks for posting! I saw it in a catalog but the teacher stores in my area don't have it in stock. I have been considering ordering it, but wasn't sure if it would be something useful or not.

hi I've been getting emails from people about Building Blocks, and I don't remember signing up for a mailring. Can anyone tell me how to stop the emails? I check the chatboard regularly, but I really don't want to get personal emails. Thanks

Try this. It's what I did, and I'm hoping it works. At the teacher.net website, click on mailrings at the top of the page. Then, down at the bottom of the page that opens, there's a place to unsubscribe to a list. You just choose the building blocks list (it's a ways down on the choice list), then enter your email address and click unsubscribe.

Our summer has been over for three weeks already, so hard to believe.
Definitely check with your district for the list for K. Our district somehow has 3 separate lists and our kids are expected to learn them all.
I use the Dolch Word List starting with the preprimer list:
"a and away big blue can come down find for funny go help here I in is it jump little look make me my not one play red run said see the three to two up we where yellow you"
We don't use a word wall, but have a name wall instead. Each child's name is under the specific letter. We really just use it to talk about and relate letters/sounds to it. I do use some word wall activities (ex. stomping, clapping) when we work on our sight words.
The best advice I can give you is to get the Blue Month-by-
Month Building Block book. It will be a huge help. Good
luck.
