My school is updating the our webpage and would like a site for parents to learn about Building Blocks. Any good suggestions? There was one I recall in Illinois but that was a few years ago. It's all for teachers and parents need info. too. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Help! I don't have many resources, I have been making my guided reading books to use every day to go with my theme (frogs at the moment). What are some other, creative ways to do guided reading that will allow me to get to bed before dawn???!!!!! Laura
Check out this site. She has lots of emergent readers books

Our elementary school is considering doing away with a formal library and librarian and using the four blocks classroom model. Will the four blocks model replace the need for a school library/librarian?

I don't get the connection. Why would doing Four Blocks mean getting rid of a school library or librarian????? I have never heard of that?!?!?
deb I am not sure what the connection is but I have been considering a move to the library. One of my thoughts coming from 4 blocks is, since I think in terms of the books needed in the 4 block classroom - it has occured to me that in the position of the librarian, I could lend out my reader's theatre sets that I have made and my group sets of books (if I am able to get others interested in 4 blocks). Could it be that the school doesn't want to invest money in library books for individual children to borrow, but instead wants to invest in sets of books for teachers to borrow and use in their classrooms with the baskets of books? It would seem like it would make more sense to give up workbooks instead. Sue

Each child plays the roll of the person that they want to be once grown up.
Mrs. Duck takes calls as the caller tells of what situation they are facing. She then searches her employment cards for a person suited for the job.
(each child is dress up as what they want to be)
(teacher will be dressed as a duck)
frantic music plays as each child leaves the stage on their appointment. The music stops just long enough for the next phone call. Mrs. Duck is also trying to take a break.
It ended with Mrs. Duck developing a tooth ache, and the last child who wanted to be a dentist checking Mrs. Duck's mouth and dragging her off stage to fix that naughty tooth.

I was told that my kinder class would be a kinder/first next year. Of course, I am bound and determined to go to another school and take a straight first if I have too! (First is my favorite, but I ended up in kinder w/o choice this year)... Can someone give me some inspiration to stay and do a k/1 split....

I was wondering if anyone else out there follows this kind of schedule. Our corporation is divided half of our schools go all day everyother day and the other half are 1/2 day programs. due to transportation issuses we have been asked to consider the alternating days with 1/2 days on Friday. I would like to teach all day everyday. I know there is research to support this but this alternating schedule, not seeing my kids every day scares me.
I teach all day Kindergarten. I do know a K teacher who did 1/2 days alternating. She didn't keep track of the number of days she needed. So now she has to go everyday the month of May.
Our board and many in this area do either a M-W, every other Friday or T-Th and every other Friday. This works well for us. Although a neighbouring board had the Junior Kdgns go T- Th and the Senior Kdgns go on M-W-F. I think this is a good idea as many juniors would do well with just two days a week.
