Helping our new 11 year old son from China adjust to American schools' standards of behavior really pointed out to me how far we've come in what is considered acceptable behavior vis a vis bullying. Our son has had a tough time learning that any kind of 'horsing around' behavior is now considered potentially bullying. His school really has a zero tolerance for any and all name calling and play fisticuffs. He tells us that kids regularly invited him to have fist fights during recess and that teachers looked the other way. I'm not sure how accurate this is. Luckily, he hasn't done this at school here, but we have had some home calls regarding teasing and horse play in the halls.
