My experience with co-teaching has been in Physical Education, and many states require the regular classroom teachers to come in the gym with the physical education teacher who then has about 60-70 students at once. The regular classroom teachers should be constantly monitoring, as the physical educator gives instruction, but they don't want to do that! They'd rather be sitting r in their classrooms, or grading papers which I totally understand. It puts the p.e. teacher in an awful prediciment, since she/he has such liability if the students aren't monitored, but doesn't want to have to "police" her fellow teachers either. I would rather have smaller class size and be in the gym alone, or with a very helpful teacher. The co-teaching experience totally depends on the teachers!!!
