HELP! I am a new computer teacher and the darn things don't work. They freeze. They shut down. They're slow. I put in a work order but I need some ideas for keeping my little darlings busy until the tech gets this fixed.

I teach grades 5-8. Our curriculum is mostly MS Office.

The kids are good but it becomes a classroom management problem when they can't get anything done. It's not a great way to start the year off...or my career, for that matter. Please help!
Jayne I had the same problem when I started. I had a baunch of lectures--computer history, computer ethics, internet safety (I even had a video from the PTA on this), computer acronyms and terminology. These got me by for a few weeks.

When I could get some computers working, I partnered the kids.

Cathy I think all computer teachers run into this from time to time. It is very frustrating. One of the first things I would do is see if you can have your class meet somewhere other than the computer lab unless your lab also has an area desks and chairs.
