How long do you expect a computer to last in a lab used frequently by 200+ students? I am using computers (DELL) that were purchased in 2001. They are starting to slowly fail. Leslie

ideally? Ideally, maybe 5 years?

In the real world? Probably much longer than that. My computer lab's computers were replaced 3 years ago with refurbished computers that were donated. They work ok, but are showing signs of their age. They're slowing down and are visibly showing their age. There's just no money to do anything with them or to replace...See More

Neal I would say 5 to not more than 7 years.

IRS would amatorize them that way I think, and with the changes in techology certainly you couldn't do anything require heavy graphics. Word processing, programming, htm writing would be ok but art/video/audio work would never be up to todays standards.

Mary Last year my situation was the same, 2001, 200+, but in the summer they had all been formatted and we started over. No trouble-shooting time at all during classes. When you have to start doing that, it's ridiculous. Wipe them clean.
