As far as being alone with a student... that just goes with your comfort level I suppose. In high school you aren't really going to be doing much "counseling," everything will be academic. Transcript reviews, scholarships, prepping for graduation, etc etc... No reason to have your door closed for that.
I am about to interview for a new counseling position at a high school. Can someone tell me some questions they have been asked before when interviewing for a high school position. I have only taught in a middle school.

I recently decided that I would like to pursue a career as a guidance counselor. I'm currently in a communications degree and was curious where I would need to go from here?
MaryHi Steven. Depending on the state you're in, you can enter the profession as "Lateral Entry". If your communications degree is a master's, some of your courses may count toward a school counseling degree. Check with your state's department of education for specific requirements. Good luck!
I am a new school counselor at a middle school and have been tasked with teaching two classes. I have to come up with a curriculum and as luck would have it, there is very little out there in terms of semester long content relating to school counseling. I have decided to piece together topics and simply create a curriculum from scratch but I was curious as to whether anyone had any ideas? As I said, I am very new so I would like to put relevant content into the curriculum. Any help of advice would be greatly appreciated!
I will be presenting before a number of school counselors at a district meeting soon. I'm a psychotherapist seeking referral sources. Is there an area of psychology you wish you knew more about that would help you in working with students?
