In my recent book I used quotation marks in this manner: She said to herself, "I love him but I'm not sure I can trust him." The publishers' editors removed the quotation marks and I believe that was incorrect. The woman is quoting herself. Can you clarify?

Also, in the same book, I say, "In the Billings' home" and the editors changed that to read, "In the Billings's home". The name Billings is possessive in this case and I believe the addition of another "s" is unnecessary and awkward, It's like saying "In Jesus's name" which requires one to say the "s" sound twice. Your thoughts please.
