I like to make my Language Center/creative writing center/author area a 'celebratory area", special with a roll top desk (WalMart has a small rolltop version)special chair and different kinds of special pens, paper, pencils to make that time a special time for the 'authors'. Turns are taken in using the desk. Others may use the 'special' supplies at their desks as they await their turn at the desk. An example of each genre is available at the desk for reference. Genres can be introduced and become the focus writing during the year. Opportunities/prompts/examples to write in various genres are available. Near the writing desk I have an illustrators area with special supplies. Next to this area is my library and authors gallery where I have photographs, autographs, biographies of authors and illustrators. Ariel in the Night Kitchen Your classroom writing center sounds great. I especially like the Illustrator's Center and the idea of adding the students to the gallery as they complete work. Sounds like a wonderful environment. I'd love to see pictures.
