I am creating a poetry unit with a schooling theme. How can I create lessons that encourage the students to discover the literary elements rather than me just telling them. Thanks. I'm doing one element per poem

You can create a Tic-tac-toe board with the literary elements you want to focus on. Students put one poem title in each square and provide proof by also including lines from the text.

Students could enter more than one poem in each square, but the finished one has to have the better example.

Reading poetry is not easy and for some students it's near to impossible....See More

marjoryt I agree with the previous posters. Very definitely you'll want to provide plenty of your own examples (ones you did) and others (from the internet).

Since my students begin the semester with short stories and plays, they know the basic formalist elements, and they've been exposed to cultural, historical, and psychological strategies. Start...See More
