Last year I reorganized my class library. I really like the results, but this year our district is going to require AR. My question is should I have separate containers for AR books or should I just put labeled AR books together within the current categories? Thanks,

If you like your current categories, just keep tje, as is, and put labels on the AR books. Pulling them out and grouping them together makes it too hard to find stuff.
The endless laughter that once echoed from elementary school playgrounds has unfortunately turned into silence. [Click below to read about how playgrounds have become silent entities in many schools and why recess should be part of the school day.]
Does your school have a reading series it uses? Is it phonics based? Do you require students to read at a certain DRA level to enter first and to promote from first? We have a series I like, but others are saying our phonics is weak, we have too many struggling readers....thinking about changing and need your thoughts please.
On 5/25/14, j...See MoreI'm in a low income, high ELL district and the Wilson Program really works well. My district tends to modify everything to suit our particular needs. For reading, we go by the standards. The district gives us a skeleton list of stories we must do for each standard, but leaves us lots of time for readings of our own choosing.

BrittanyWe use a reading series called Scott Foresman's Reading Street. We also use a phonics program called Saxon Phonics. I strongly believe in the Saxon program and believe it helps children learn how to read. Also websites such as starfall.com are helpful with phonics practice!
Ok teachers, I want to start off the new year with a great read aloud that the kids will love. Who has some titles for me. We ended the year with Junie B. Jones, Batman Smells...and they loved it!
