Just wondering what are some of your best ways to increase reading fluency for first graders? I know that the required no. of words read per minute keeps increasing for these students!
Practice, practice, practice. There's no shortcut and no other way. Make sure they each have independent reading books at their independent reading level - NOT at their instructional level. They can't build fluency at their instructional level - fluency comes from 15-20 minutes daily reading at their independent reading level. If you can't depend on your families to have the kids do it at home, give two 10 minute SSRs every day in school. And do a read aloud every day or as many days a week as you can preferably in a chapter book if you're a good aloud reader. If not, get CDs for them to listen to.

jo/maThanks for sharing. I only had time for a quick look, but I can see there are quite a few sites I was unaware of. I look forward to checking these sites out!
