I have moved between two schools and the new school I am at is very passive aggressive. I am not good at the politics and I feel like my Admin is not fully supportive of what I am doing. I also know there have been a number of complaints made about me by parents. y principal just takes what the parents say as the truth and doesn't take the time to see what is really going on in my class. I also am forced to have my IC in my room while I teach due to all the complaints (I assume). Yet, somehow I am still receiving complaints and am not allowed to know why or what is being said. All I am allowed to know is there are complaints made about me roughly every 2 weeks and I feel no support from the principal on it all. Every time my IC is in my room she has a number of things I am doing wrong in terms of standards being placed around my room, my bulletin boards and how I am not using technology appropriately. How do I hep get the principal on my side? What do I do about all the passive aggressive behavior? Is anyone else principal like this?
What do I do? What is all of this meaning? Any help would be appreciated.
Any 4th grade teachers in California? I'm looking for unique, interesting lessons to incorporate into our Social Studies that focuses on California History. The textbook is great and all, but I want to give the kids some more engaging, maybe even artistic options. Thanks in advance!

My granddaughter's teacher in Greensboro, NC at Brooks Elementary did it! They worked on it a little the entire year. Much of the work was done at home. I am interested in doing it with my fourth graders (who would not have the support at home) in 6 teams of 4 and during this final quarter. There is a list of topics they can use for each letter on line. I found one and a rubric. My baby enjoyed this! We did too!
Not only were they simply copying, they were doing it poorly. When I’d question their methodology and suggest that they were plagiarizing, they were adamant that they were not plagiarizing because what they wrote did not look exactly the same as the text from which they were copying. Finally, through trial and error, I discovered that if students read a paragraph, then covered it, then stated what they read in one sentence, they could often summarize the paragraph in their own words.
Summarizing allows students to re-frame their understanding by identifying key facts and concepts, filing information away in long-term memory in a more concise way. Much research has been done on the efficacy of summarizing. Marzano, Pickering, and Pollack do an excellent job of compiling and presenting that research in teacher-friendly terms.
