I'm secondary trained and am in my second year of teaching KS2 too. I've noticed that my KS2 & 3 students find simple short listening exercises quite challenging even if they are able to say the vocab/sing the words/ read the vocab /use the vocab appropriately in roleplays and even write the vocab. When it comes to listening that is not in a singing format these bright and well behaved children get fidgety/distracted/anxious. Can anyone give me an explanation for this/theory behind this/have noticed this themselves. I then have a the same children in Year 7 and they can suddenly cope. Is it a maturity thing? Year 6 aren't that far apart from year 7 from what I've observed though. Any advice/knowledge/tips/theories greatly welcomed
