Just som bibs and bobs.

Some of you may know that I am running these days. I can't believe I'm actually doing it. I've now run 5km without stopping, 3 times in my life - the last three Saturdays. I'm slow, but getting faster. This morning I sprinted to the finish. My average speed was about 7km/hour, but that last hit got up to 12km/hour. I felt like I was flying! My broken leg has thoroughly healed. There are times I think that it was the best thing that could have happened to me.

Previous to this year I've had just three interviews in my life. This week I had two. They were middle management roles in each of my teaching departments. Though I didn't get either of them, I interviewed well and got encouraging feedback about continuing to put myself forward. In each case the bosses went away saying "I didn't know you could do that." Our school year is drawing to a close and I'm excited for what next year will bring. This year I taught three music classes (Year 7 & 8) and five religion classes (7, 8 & 9), all compulsory. Ours is a 7-12 school and I only got the bottom end, and no elective music at all. It's been a tough year. Teaching religion in a high school to kids who aren't churched and whose parents don't overtly support the value of religion can be somewhat of an uphill battle.

Next year I'll have the year 12 and Year 9 elective music classes - YAY!! I'll also have one 7 and one 8, but for this year each grade will be rostered on at the same time, so we'll be able to team teach. The other teacher is taking a year off and there is a crop of new teachers coming to the subject and they are all singers and pianists. I'm soooo excited about those possibilities!!

On the religion front, I've been given Year 11 religion for the first time in my life. It is an externally examinable subject so their focus is different to the junior school. My co-ordinator said yesterday that he couldn't understand why I'd been ignored for so many years and that this is a reward for spending so long in the trenches. :-) I'll also have year 7, and that's a lovely course to teach.

So many possibilities for a great year!

To finish, I have to tell you about my granddaughter. She is 2 1/2 and last night had a bad night. Her Daddy asked her this morning, "What was wrong last night?" "I'm nocturnal" was her reply. Oh I had a good belly laugh!!!!!

Cher ha ha about nocturnal. So glad for you and that the self confidence that was always there is now shining through.

Betty Ann How wonderful to have the opportunity to teach some of what gives you joy.

It sounds as if the determination, perseverance, and confidence you have gained through the ordeal with your leg and know taking up running are permeating all areas of your life. A blessing in disguise.

Novel Little ones are hilarious sometimes!

Good to hear about your exciting news for the coming year. Hope school is as fulfilling and interesting as you hope.
