I am also an experienced, more traditional teacher, but I have over the years tried to keep up generally with new technology and techniques. You needn't sacrifice your values as a teacher while at the same time boning up a bit w/the "new" stuff. You may even find that using some new stuff makes your life easier. For example, I'll used youtube vids to teach songs (I'm a language teacher), and even if you post a picture via your Smart Board as opposed to using a paper picture, the kids will be more engaged and focused. Using different media (pictures included!) make lessons more interesting. My advice is to get a colleague whom you trust to show you how to do some of the new stuff. Not only will the kids be impressed, your life will probably be somewhat easier, and administrators who observe you will be impressed with your willingness to stay "modern" in your approach. Good luck and please tell me how it goes.
