I'm petite. I rarely weigh over 110 pounds, and trust
me...I do eat! I tell you this to set you up for this
story...
one of my students asked me if i would sign her list to
donate blood at the upcoming blood drive. it will be held
in our gym. i just shook my head, no. she pressed the
issue. why? is it because you don't weigh enough? (you
have to weigh at least 115 pounds). i nodded, hoping the
conversation would drop. it didn't. well, how much do
you weigh? she kept asking. I wouldn't tell her. i
guess the kids thought i was embarrassed about my
weight...but i just felt like that was personal
information they didn't need to know.
finally, one of my big burly football players ceased the
conversation with this comment: "It's okay, Mrs. G. I
don't weigh 115 pounds, either."
Needless to say, we all laughed about that for quite
awhile.
