Just heard a news story on NBC concerning a private school where there are no teachers and no lesson plans. Elementary students choose what they want to do. One child chose to catch as many butterflies as he wanted; another chose to jump on his pogo stick. Parents pay high tuition for their children to attend. One stated he wanted his child to become a thinker rather than a doer....???? What do you think about this approach?
mary Not sure this is the best type of education for students. These would have to be some very responsible young children who are self motivated to learn. Who had a deep desire to become educated. Hope their parents have a lot of money left after paying all that high tuition.

Been a long time since I've seen an employment ad for Butterfly Chaser or Pogo Stick Jumper.

jme My public elementary school (in the sixties) didn't go that far, but it was definitely on that track. We had "learning coordinators" instead of teachers. Only some of the more responsible eighth graders had totally "free schedules," but a group of us spent much of our sixth grade year (my last year there)working on a play based on the movie Cindere...See More
