I'd like to connect with any LMS' who are working on component 3 for National Boards. I'd really like to join a cohort of other ECYALM candidates but haven't found any in my area. Please let me know if you'd like to talk!
I am currently a Master's degree college student in a School Library Media program, and I am debating on the subject of whether a school library media specialist should have teaching experience prior to becoming a SLMS.
I am looking for viewpoints from those who were teachers before becoming a SLMS and those that are now a SLMS and had no prior teaching experience.
The Question:
Should teaching certification/experience be a pre- requisite to the SLM profession? Why, or why not?

I'm new to this board and haven't posted on TNet in several years.
I'm entering my 8th year as Library/Media Specialist at a K-5 school that has 950 students. I want to finally have a flexible schedule this year. Does anyone have any experience with this type of schedule at the elementary level? We have 37 regular ed. classes and one Life Skills class. I'm thinking I may have K-1 and Life Skills be fixed schedule classes and 2-5 be flex. classes. It's hard to meet the needs of such a large school! I have two part- time assistants, one in the morning for a couple hours and one in the afternoon for 1.5 hours.
Hello, I am making the switch from the classroom to media specialist where I will be teaching computer classes, to k,1 and 2. Any ideas for curriculum and lesson plans? I sure hope someone out there is teaching computer classes, too. thanks much,
It used to be "turn off the tv week." This time, the students and their teacher attempted a week without connection. A seventh grader wrote, “I don’t know how people in the early days did without laptops."
How did it go? Click below to read about the experience, lessons taught, and some lessons learned.
