A 3rd grade teacher came into library and ask which she should follow for the children in her class. Should she recommend books at their lexiles or that are on considered on their grade level. She also asked me why the two do not work out. How can a book with a have 3rd grade reading level and have a 5th graders lexile? I wasn't sure what to tell her. I told her I didn't know how they determined the scores? What is the difference?
I'd like to know too I'm interested in the answer too because my middle school child has a college level lexile score and we are having a hard time finding reading material that is challenging yet somewhat interesting for just fun reading. Most books liked by the middle school kids are at a lower reading level.
