I'm suddenly faced with class periods that are only 30 minutes long, as opposed to the 45 minutes I thought I would have with each class in the library. How much time do you allow for students to select a book and check out? I'm new, so any pointers helping me manage my time would be great. Thank you.
Booklady You didn't say what grade levels you are working with. But at the beginning of the year, it may take longer to check out than later. It takes time for students to find books--looking for that "perfect" one or two. You may still be learning the check out system as well as students names, etc.

Mary Elizabeth We have an open checkout each morning for 30 minutes! I have my students for 45 minutes and have found we checkout better at the beginning of class than waiting till the end.
