Low Sixth Graders

I have a reading group (6 boys and 2 girls) and need suggestions for age- appropriate books on about the third to fourth grade reading level. From what I've already learned about my students, I'd like to avoid anything with controversial content or mild curse words, and anything about parents missing or dying.

Julia Here are some more ideas:

Riding Freedom (about 4th grade level- historical fiction- some more difficult vocabulary, but the plot is pretty easy to follow) Skellig (officially a 4.5 reading level, you can read this one just for the surface story or really dig into the symbolism) Love That Dog (poetry) Marley & Me: A Dog Like No Other ...See More

DP You can not lose with the Diary of a Wimpy Kid. You can have the kids keep a journal as they read the book. Trust me, once they finish it they will be ready for the next one. The author already has out 3 books. Good Luck. DP

HL Try the AL'S WORLD series by Elise Leonard. Kids love 'em, and they're written for struggling readers. Even I enjoy reading these books. Talk about entertaining.
