I'm a first-year teacher in alternative education. I've noticed that many of the lit books we are using have movies that have been made from them as well. I'd like to show the movie, too, but I was wondering in which order I should do it: Do I show the movie first and whet their appetites? Or do I show the movie after the book as incentive to read the book? What do you think?
GReece I prefer to do the reading first. That way, the film does not interfere with the students' visualization and prediction of the text. My favorite response: "Oh, I like the book so much better!"

Book first I do this all the time....its always the book first. Then, we "pick apart" what we would have done differently if we were Hollywood Script writers. Some of my kids think they'd like to write book to movie scripts for a living!

Mr. A I've shown movies (after the books are read), but now I wonder...

Why?

They just read the book.
