I want to create a "club" that will encourage students in Middle School to read the Newbery Medal books.

The problem is, I don't know how to set it up. The reading will be on their own, but I'd like to present awards or incentives for doing this. We have an awards ceremony at the end of the year as well so something could be tied into that. Many of our students get "stuck" in a certain book series, which isn't the worst because they are reading, but I'd like to encourage them to read books they wouldn't normally pick up. We use AR at our school as well.

Any creative people out there that can help me?
Gwyn Why not create some sort of punch card/bookmark for the Newberry books. Everytime they read one, they write a book summary (doesn't have to be long; you could even use a form that asks for the main details, i.e. plot, characters, setting). arizonataylor I like your idea. The problem I had was that students were reading books that were simply way below their ability level.
