Finally got me a job in a core class room (middle grades math) and the school claims to be project based which equals no text book. This is fine with me but I am a little confused about "project-based" learning. I understand projects. So, is the order of what is done like this: 1)Begin the project - get them with some sort of hook. 2)Ask open ended questions - guidig them toward vocabulary and concept to be learned. 3)As they answer the questions - show them examples of the concept to be learned and give them guided practice in addition to the "project". 4)Let them finish up the project.

Most of the middle school math "projects" I have found, even at the state website appears to be doable only if the student has prior knowledge of the concept.

Somewhere I must be missing the point which is usual for me because I almost always understand what administrators want whether I agree with it or not. Can anyone help me on this?

Thanks.
Kay This answer is very late in coming, but when I had to do project based learning, I ordered a couple of books with as many math PBL projects as possible. I went to a conference on the basics & that helped, too. Good luck

This needs to be emblazoned on some administrators' foreheads, and has always been the problem with constructivist learning
