I teach 7th and I agree that their #1 interest is socializing. However, they are know that they have to do work in school so I think something that involving "doing" would be a big draw for them.
However, don't be surprised if you hear some complaints. I have students who complain just to hear themselves talk. It's "cooler" to complain but they might secretly like it. Good teaching is still good teaching!
RebeccaI moved from primary (K-2) to 6th grade reading and 6th-8th grade reading intervention this year. I discovered that the kids spend so much time sitting and listening throughout the day that any opportunity to engage, create, or move was appreciated. My students did foldables and interactive notebooks and loved it.

The student who was killed left behind three siblings. The driver was on her way to pick up her own 7th grade student at the same school. (Her child and the child who she struck were classmates.) Police have stated that no cell phone use, including texting, was involved. It appears to have been a freak accident that occurred while the student was crossing the street, as the driver was making a left turn onto that street.
