I am a retired physical education teacher with 34 years of experience having taught at the elementary and university levels. I have recently completed a Masters of Education Degree. I have completed a text that is directed to students of physical education at the university level and/or to physical educators working in the field at the elementary and early middle years. The book describes a framework (The ‘Time Method’) that allows any curricular material to be used. The schematic on the flip side of this page traces the general themes inherent in this text, while providing a simple, sequential summary. • The text has a strong academic section which supports the very detailed practical information that pervades the rest of the material. • This resource also uniquely recognizes and makes suggestions that will help keep a physical educator healthy. This feature is never dealt with in any text that I have seen, yet is paramount in keeping teachers in the field. Ironically the health of the practitioner is never a consideration in this health related field when considering curricular design. • Another unique element of this material is a strong emphasis on personal/social management learning outcomes. The framework that is described in great detail allows for all learning outcomes, but it emphasizes relational skills as the bedrock of creating an environment that increases the likelihood of students being more receptive to learning. I have presented workshops across Winnipeg and at the University of Manitoba and University of Winnipeg based on this material.
