Trump honors genocide

Trump at his 2020 rally (really?) in Phoenix, sought to build anger in his audience, by taunting "They're trying to take away our culture. They're trying to take away our history" (clearly referencing efforts to remove monuments to the Confederacy erected in the Jim Crow era).

Libertarians and our founding fathers proclaimed, "Give me liberty, or give me death!" Clearly in their eyes, the concept of bondage is worse even than murder.

By this standard, slavery was a racial genocide of historic proportion.

And Trump insists we must honor that genocide. "They're trying to take away our culture. They're trying to take away our history!"

Ironically, the next night reading dutifully from his teleprompter, Trump urged us to come together as a nation.

Add "genocide apologist" and "schizophrenic" to the list of modern day presidential adjectives.

Maybe some middle ground should be found as opposed to what you see in the picture - a picture which demonstrates that both sides are holding extreme positions!

Now mind you, I have no objection to the statues being removed in a way that deals with the "emotions" of both sides, but that is not what is happening here. The side you are saying is "principled" is giving a big "f*ck you" to the other side. Then they are surprised that it brings out the worst in people.

Well no! I take that back! They know full well that it will bring out the worst in people and, IMHO, that is their intent. Again IMHO, this is not a principled stance. It is not because it is all about garnering support by looking for and engaging the worst elements of their opposition - intentionally.

Then there is the intellectual compartmentalization. It is one thing to say (and I support this), "It is time to stop honoring those in our history who inflicted injustice on others". Yet, such a "principled stance" should require a person to look at the treatment of Native Americans, Union Organizers and workers in general, and more.

In the meanwhile, this nation has abominable health care, wars that have gone on for 16 years. We have a nation with half the population in or near poverty with the richest taking virtually all of the newly created wealth. We have an educational system that is disastrously under funded and puts college students into debt slavery. All of this and more and you think it is a "principled stance" to complain about a statue in a park!

The rich of this country are laughing their a*s off at the way they have diverted your attention. The rich have you expending your energy on your hatred of statues in parks and those "racists" rather than looking at the real violence the rich are doing to "everyone" in this country.

Bob R/CA Wow, you're actually blaming the people opposing monuments to slavery, for the neo-nazis driving a car through a crowd? To be consistent, you should also blame the people who invest in stocks for 9/11. Nevermind, you already do.

T.E.C. - Iowa Bob, you need to do something to improve your reading comprehension! I simply said that their tactics will bring out the worst in their opposition - and I think it is intentional. They want the publicity. It seems you think rioting and death over this monument issue is just fine! There are better ways to find a resolution to this issue!
