Does anyone that teaches the 2- 2 and a half year old class teach the alphabet to their kids and when in the school year do you start. I am new to teaching age group: 2-2 and a half year old.
I am a new teacher for the 2-21/2 class and I wanted to know if anyone that teaches the same age level gives their kids scissors and paper at this age.

Hi, I teach that same age group. One class of young two's and a class of older two's. For the young two's I wait until December and for the older two's I introduce the scissors in November. Of course this varies depending on the children. I start them off using blunt end scissors and the sensory tub filled with straws for children to cut. (They are reminded that the scissors to not leave the tub). I find that the straws are easy for them to hold and cut. Then I introduce other materials for them to cut. I keep any paper scraps for them to practice cutting. Eventually I have a cutting and gluing area set up for them. When we have the scissors out we do make sure that both my assistant and I are keeping an eye on that activitiy area. There are different types of child safe scissors to help children master the skill of cutting. Good Luck and let me know if I can help with any questions.
