Preschool testing/sp.needs

Do any of you do evaluations for sp. needs?These tests are usually filled out by the parents not the teachers. I have a kid who started about a month ago and whose parents gave us a form to fill out with checklists for language,social development,etc. My opinion is not to do it without the parent present,if at all,since I feel this is not a long enough period of time to give accurate observations. My co- teacher does not agree. I don't want the checklist to be done based on opinions and assumptions rather than accuracy.Again,these are usually done by the parent.

Opinions,anyone?
