This is the least smooth day I've had in over thirty years of teaching.
We only had half a day. There were only three new students and everyone else was returning from the grade before.
New students came from a private school. New students were boldly talking, talking back and lazy.... The laziness is somewhat understandable after summer vacation of doing recreational activities, but this was ridiculous considering what was asked of them today.... Even getting new books seemed to be a chore to them. The lack of respect was beyond acceptable. These are primary aged children.
I am used to children being a bit shy or reserved and laid back the first day. I hate the thought of having to be the policeman this year. It looks like it is going to be a "bumpy" year.
And I don't like having to (and I have to) be the enforcer from day one.
Oh well...just venting. In retrospect, I've been blessed in the past.
