At my school teachers are required to have lunchroom duty every 3 weeks. On some days I don't have a resource until 2:00 so that means I have no break (even bathroom) until 2:00. I'd like to know if this is typical of other private school? Before this I taught in public school and teachers were entitled to a duty-free lunch. Thanks.
public school teacher now/former private school I don't have duty free lunch at all and don't have planning until 1:45. We eat with our students. I assume some other teachers are in the cafeteria with you and can watch your kids long enough for you to go to the bathroom. That's what we do.

Please note: Not all public schools have duty free lunch. Entitled is not a word we hear much in ...See More

Jean Bullock Is this for one day or for the whole week? It isn't typical of our diocesan schools. Teachers always have their lunch time per state law regulations. The teachers do have to do recess duty though.

certifiedteach I would assume your state has work laws that say all workers must have a lunch time, whether paid or unpaid. So, do you get a lunch and then go in to work duty? If not, I would research the labor laws in your state. That is all I can recommend. I teach in a parochial school, and we get lunch as required by law.

MET At my private school, I serve the students hot lunch. I can eat with them if I wish. Regarding use of bathroom, I assign a responsible student to be in charge so that I may use the facilities and rest of the students are engaged with desk work.
