Masters degree PLUS a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the specific field of study.
I have a master's degree in Secondary English Education, and about 1/2 of my courses were in English (the rest in Education, focusing on curriculum design and at risk students). ALL my English were Ph.D. level.
I also have courses from a previous attempt at a master's degree in English (focusing on linguistics and medieval English). Most of those courses were also Ph.D. level.
So. . .my question to you is what exactly do you WANT to teach? If you want to teach a foreign language, switch over and get the course work in place. A friend of mine has a Ph.D. in voice and has successfully taught that, but has migrated over to teaching French, after getting her 18 graduate hours in the field.
