I am trying to find the reading levels for SRA. I have used an old RFU assessment but don't have the chart with the levels....anyone know how to score this??
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC...See MoreHello! I have started a new YouTube Channel where I read children's books aloud. So many of the videos online now are poor quality, so I've tried hard to make the videos fun, bright, and engaging. I want to help reach more kids with books and, I hope it can be a good new video resource for many teachers!
Not only were they simply copying, they were doing it poorly. When I’d question their methodology and suggest that they were plagiarizing, they were adamant that they were not plagiarizing because what they wrote did not look exactly the same as the text from which they were copying. Finally, through trial and error, I discovered that if students read a paragraph, then covered it, then stated what they read in one sentence, they could often summarize the paragraph in their own words.
Summarizing allows students to re-frame their understanding by identifying key facts and concepts, filing information away in long-term memory in a more concise way. Much research has been done on the efficacy of summarizing. Marzano, Pickering, and Pollack do an excellent job of compiling and presenting that research in teacher-friendly terms.
Here are four great ways to teach summarizing skills to your students. {Click below for the full article. Our content is always free, but please do support our sponsors.)
This skill is particularly important because of the proliferation of altered truths circulating the Internet through email and website propaganda that too many people take as fact because it is written, when, in reality, it is merely opinion.
I teach 6th grade and I'm looking for fictional short stories that match certain themes. For example: bullying, making a difference/change, resiliency, courage, etc. If anyone has any example titles, I'd really appreciate it!

As a trailer for these books I have written a creepy short story which students might like. It´s called Heart of Winter and it´s free on Smashwords or 99c or equivalent on Amazon - I´m giving all the profits to the International Rescue Committee until they make it free. I don´t want to make money from the books but to genuinely help students enjoy Shakespeare´s plays!
Thanks for reading this and if you have any interest, I´ll post a link below. I´m happy to answer any questions about the book or series and have teaching materials ready if anyone is interested. Thanks again! Oh, and Happy Halloween!!!
