I'm looking for some new ideas for those overused babyish words in writing. I've called them dead words before because they were "extinct" and had them on a poster with dinosaurs. For the last 5 years I've called them "Dead Words" and have the students make tombstones with alternate words to use and we decorate the door for Halloween with the tombstones and a bunch of decorations I bought at the dollar store. After the holiday, the words are moved inside the classroom. I've also heard people call them "tired words".

What do you do with those overused words? I teach 7th grade.

txteacher586 I put them to bed! I have a picture of bed and put all the words that are overused on it. I have a graphic if you're interested. Just email me!
