Not sure what to give for homework

Hi. I am a new LA Teacher teaching seventh graders reading and writing. I sometimes find it hard what to assign for homework after reading the short stories and doing grammar with them. Any suggestions?

This personal response could be whether or not w...See MoreWhen I was in sixth and seventh grade while reading novels for class part of homework was to keep a journal that was part dictionary of words we didn't previously know, part response to questions give by the teacher (usually two or three per chapter) and part our own personal response to the reading. This personal response could be whether or not we liked it, creating our own illustrations, or writing a letter to a specific character. I enjoyed doing it and was always excited to share my work. You also might be able to incorporate some research with an assignment on future careers of interest, interviewing an older family member and creating a narrative of this person's life, or investigating their family's cultural or racial background.

psasarak I teach reading intervention ingrades 3-5. The homework I give my students is vocabulary. I give them a packet which we date each page. The first night is an assignment at the knowledge level - What do the words mean? The second night is at the application level. ( up the Bloom ladder) Third night is categorizing the words, etc. and the last night ...See More
