Looking for a good resource to teach middle school students how to read scientific graphs in preparation for the ACTs. I would like something perhaps in workbook form that I could hand out as weekly homework for practice.
I would have several suggestions if I knew what level of earth science you are teaching....Is there an environmental slant to your class. Historical geology (e.g. discussion of rise & fall of particular species or genera, paleo continental map), structural-given a complex cross-section work out the relative ages of each unit.
What is the difference between distillation and fractional distillation? I thought distillation was for water and fractional distillation was for crude oil but I looked on the internet and it said that it was to separate water???

Fractional distillation and distillation are often misrepresented on the internet, as you have found. I have always taught, and been taught from my undergrad and grad days, that fractional distillation is a process that is used to separate fractions of liquid from other fractions in a mixture or solution. An example would be crude oil, which consists of many fractions of significant &37; volume.
Distillation on the other hand is used to purify a liquid or remove a specific fraction at high purity. Example, purifying water or removing a high alcohol content liquid from mash (whiskey making). Typically the fluid being distilled is already fairly high in purity or content.
Good day everyone. I am so excited for this coming opening of classes. This year, I want to try something new in my teaching strategies that I believe will benefit my students in science subject. I have heard about project-based learning. Its quite interesting. Can you give me some ideas on how this strategy use in science classes?
